Tony Soprano - Lapaglia Considered For Soprano Movie

WITHOUT A CLUE star ANTHONY LaPAGLIA almost got a second chance to play TONY SOPRANO when THE SOPRANOS writers considered a film-within-a-TV show for the series' final season.

Australian LaPaglia was one of the first actors considered as the Soprano family leader before the role went to James Gandolfini.

But, in a new interview with show creator David Chase for an upcoming final season DVD, the writer reveals LaPaglia was considered again as the star of a spin-off movie about Tony Soprano.

In the DVD special interview, Chase tells interviewer and Sopranos fan Alec Baldwin that he and producers dabbled with the idea of Soprano's psychologist, played by Lorraine Bracco, writing a book about her encounters with the mob boss.

LaPaglia would have played Soprano in the movie adaptation.

Karaoke for kids

A Japanese toy maker will launch a karaoke machine measuring a mere 7cm this year, letting pop star wannabes - particularly children - hone their skills. Tomy Co Ltd said it would begin sales of the world's smallest karaoke machine in October in Japan, targeting those too young to enter the karaoke parlours that dot the country's cities. The Hi-kara machine comes with headsets, meaning only the users can hear the music.. The machine will be priced at 10,000 yen ($134.10). Players will have to buy a cartridge that holds 10 pre-installed songs or download 10 songs over the internet from a choice of 3500 titles.

J.J. Abrams Still Stumped on ‘Cloverfield 2’

Photo-illustration: Getty Images, Courtesy ofParamount
When J.J. Abrams's motion-sick monster comedy, Cloverfield, earned back twice its $25 million budget in its opening weekend, Paramount ordered a sequel pretty much immediately. Abrams and director Matt Reeves said they were game, but Cloverfield 2's existence would depend on how fast they could come up with a compelling way to continue the original film's story. Various possible gimmicks (a prequel story, the monster could attack a different city, the original attack could be shown from the perspective of a different camcorder, etc.) were mentioned in interviews, but nothing official ever announced. On Wednesday, Collider ran into Reeves at the Saturn Awards (at which Cloverfield won Best Sci-Fi Film), and it sounds like they're still stumped.

"It's not dead in the water," says Reeves. "It's probably more sort of on hold. The thing that we promised ourselves is that we only wanted to do another one if we could come up with something that felt as fresh to us as [the original did]. We're still toying with what it's going to be and whether or not it's going to be as exciting to make and, hopefully, for an audience to watch [as the first one]."

We can certainly understand the difficulty involved with trying to build a franchise around a mostly unseen monster and a bunch of unsympathetic yuppie characters who are all now (spoiler alert!) dead, but surely J.J. Abrams — who, we'll remind you, was able to sustain Lost's entire third season without having a single idea — can come up with something, right? Couldn't the monster just attack a bunch of professional cinematographers this time? We'd be pretty compelled and excited if we could watch a Cloverfield movie without throwing up.

Angelina Jolie - Jolie Motorcycle Terror For Son

ANGELINA JOLIE is terrified every time her son MADDOX gets on a motorcycle with her partner BRAD PITT - because she fears for their safety.

Pitt, who has three adopted children and one biological daughter with Jolie, is teaching their oldest son Maddox, six, how to do motorbike jumps.

And Jolie, who is currently expecting twins, admits she is so scared of a crash, she can't bear to watch the pair perform the stunts.

But she insists she has to let them carry on the dangerous manoeuvres, because it allows them to bond.

She tells Britain's OK! magazine, "When I watch them having real strong father/son time or even when Mad tells me, 'This is a boy thing, Mum!', it's just really beautiful to see.

"Brad's got him doing jumps on his mini-motorcycle, and I couldn't do that without being so nervous I'd pass out.

"Brad is a great teacher, but the first time Mad went on the motorcycle, I could hardly watch."
